== About SAM ==
SAM is about Socialising Around Media. SAM develops a social media delivery platform that provides open, standarised ways of characterising, discovering and syndicating media content items interactively. Users will be able to consume and prosume media content from different syndicated sources, using different synchronised devices. With SAM content providers can create richer, enhanced experiences around original media content items such as television programming, TV shows and on-demand video.
=== From passive to interactive ===

Connected devices have changed the way users are interacting with media: from passive and one-way to proactive and interactive. Users now comment on or recommend a TV programme and search for related information – with both friends and the wider social community. This recent development is known as Second Screen. Related to this is a marketing approach referred to as Content Syndication: digital content is created once and delivered together to diverse (marketing) channels. This allows for efficient content delivery and feedback from users. SAM will develop an advanced social media delivery platform, which is based on these two concepts – Second Screen and Content Syndication.&nbsp;

The SAM Vision is organised around three main pillars, that compose its three main RTD Workpackages and that point out the research and business directions that the project will explore:

== Purpose of the Wiki ==

The purpose of the SAM wiki is to host the state-of-the-art analysis of the project in a dynamic way so as to have the possibility to continuously update it with new research findings and new technical market changes through the whole project lifecycle. Moreover, all partners have easy access to the wiki, can provide their input under a unified platform and thus ensure that the project fully utilises the best technology available. Lastly, this wiki can act as a compendium of knowledge containing useful information for other researchers in related fields.&nbsp;

== SAM Architecture == 
The SAM platform itself is based on a federated architecture, which consists of several components split in four architectural layers (Data Management, Control, Communication and Interaction).
The SAM architecture is also based in the presence of a central communication bus, that will be used by the different SAM components to exchange information or publish/access to different queues and thus become event producers/consumers following an event driven approach.
